Essential Manageability and Security

AMD’s open standards-based approach provides future-ready solutions with the features and interoperability businesses need without getting locked into a single, proprietary technology.

Enhanced Systems Management Features

AMD Business Class technology supports open standards that have the essential interoperability, security, and competitive features you demand.

AMD is also a key player in driving the development of open standards and enabling the PC ecosystem to develop out-of-band manageability solutions and tools.

These open standards initiatives include:

DASH — The Desktop and Mobile Architecture for System Hardware standard provides Web services management for desktop and mobile client systems.
DASH is a comprehensive framework that provides the next generation of standards for secure out-of-band and remote management of desktop and mobile systems in multi-vendor, distributed enterprise environments.
SMASH — The Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware standard addresses the problems cross platform server management. It includes a suite of specifications that deliver architectural semantics, standard industry protocols, and profiles to unify the management of the data center and increase productivity.

AMD SIMFIRE™ — Provides firmware and application management developers with a set of tools for testing interoperability for DASH solutions, in order to help them bring products to market more quickly.

AMD is collaborating with Broadcom and Marvell to enable PC OEMs to deliver consistent and competitive DASH-compliant solutions beginning in the second half of 2008.

We encourage you to learn more about the DASH standard (PDF) so you can choose the best tools and technologies for your client management needs.

Essential Security Features

AMD Business Class solutions also support essential security features — including the evolving Trusted Platform Module specification (TPM 1.2) as well as chip-level virtualization — for enhanced security from the moment systems start to boot up.

These features support today’s increasingly diverse IT environments rather than locking customers into expensive, proprietary technology.

Enhanced Virus Protection*

  • Can significantly reduce the cost associated with certain malicious viruses
  • Can help minimize the total cost of ownership of AMD-powered systems
AMD Virtualization™ (AMD-V™)
  • Designed to greatly increase performance of virtualized applications
  • Improves the efficiency of switching between virtual machines
  • Effectively isolates virtual machines for secure operation
TPM 1.2
  • Industry standard defined by Trusted Computing Group (TCG)
  • Widespread deployment on AMD commercial client platforms today
  • Enablement conducted through AMD third-party partners
  • Get the features you want today, and the freedom you’ll need in the future

Systems based on AMD Business Class technology offer the choice you want in security and manageability features, at the best value in the market.

AMD’s open approach supports standards-based tools that offer the innovative features you need — without locking you into expensive, proprietary technology.

Choose systems management tools based on real-world needs

As the need for remote management tools increases, DASH is expected to be the most widely implemented in-band and out-of-band management standard. Its components and functionality are being developed based on real-world needs by a consortium of objective companies.

DASH is positioned to integrate seamlessly into IT infrastructures, offering predictable interoperability — without the need for a limited set of proprietary hardware components.

Breathe easier with system security from the get-go

Keep your PCs and your business up and running with innovative security features.

AMD Business Class solutions can offer professional-grade features that help enhance security from boot-up to shut-down, to protect your valuable business data at the times when your systems are most vulnerable.

With support for the Trusted Platform Module specification (TPM 1.2) and integrated virtualization, AMD platforms help ensure system security at the chip level.

Stay up to date without going overboard

Get premium features minus the premium price tag. You don’t have to buy expensive, proprietary hardware components to enjoy the latest features.

AMD’s standards-based approach is designed to provide what you need to benefit from the latest tools — without detracting from your everyday computing needs.

AMD-powered platforms are ready to support the open standards-based remote systems management tools of the future that can help keep your support costs down.

    * Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) is only enabled by certain operating systems including the current versions of Microsoft® Windows®, Linux, Solaris and BSD Unix. After properly installing the appropriate operating system release, users must enable the protection of their applications and associated files from buffer overrun attacks. Consult your OS documentation for information on enabling EVP. Contact your application software vendor for information regarding use of the application in conjunction with EVP. AMD strongly recommend that users continue to use third party anti-virus software as part of their security strategy.
